原文：

张岱夜航船，见水天一色，月色如昼，四无人声。欸乃一声，舟子呼渡。舟子去而复返，曰：“夜深无月，不可渡。”岱曰：“月色愈佳，愈不可渡，何也？”舟子曰：“月照无碍，舟行更速，故也。”岱曰：“不然，月照无碍，舟行更缓，何也？”舟子不能答。岱因自歌《满江红》，舟子亦和之。

译文：

Zhang Dai was traveling by boat at night and saw the water and sky blending into one color, with the moonlight as bright as day, and no sound of human voices in the distance. A single sound of "Ah ye" was heard, as the boatman called for a ferry. The boatman went away and came back, saying, "It's too late at night with no moon, and it's not safe to cross." Zhang Dai said, "The brighter the moonlight, the more it's not safe to cross, why is that?" The boatman replied, "With the moonlight illuminating the way, the boat can travel more quickly, that's why." Zhang Dai said, "Not at all, with the moonlight illuminating the way, the boat should travel more slowly, why?" The boatman couldn't answer. Zhang Dai then sang the song "Man Jiang Hong" by himself, and the boatman joined in the singing.
